Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

I have a clean driving record for the past 15 years and am a very cautious driver in my 60's.I got a speeding ticket, driving 70 in a 55mph zone, did not notice any speed limit posting and was following cars ahead of me.

Its my first offence. My concern is would it affect my driving record?Would it affect my insurance?Would it be beneficial for me to go to court ?

If you are found guilty of speeding, 15mph over, as you are currently charged with, it will be reported to DMV. You can expect to receive 4-6 demerit points for the offense. The insurance company could increase your rates based on the assessment of demerit points. If you have a clean record and this is your first ticket, you should absolutely consult with an attorney about how to proceed. An attorney that handles traffic matters in the jurisdiction where the ticket is from can give you further advice.
