Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

My husband is from Peru and he has an international DL. He was stopped 2yrs ago by a forestry cop who didnt accept his international DL. He moved before the court date and forgot about the ticket. He recently was stopped for speeding where he learned his license have been suspended since 2008. We paid both tickets and we have to go to court in 3 wks. Do I need a lawyer, does he have the possibility of going to jail?

Yes, and yes, it's possible if he may not be able to prove that he actually received the notice from the DMV of his license suspension.

Correction on previous answer which should read: it's possible (jail) if he may not be able to prove that he actually DID NOT receive from the DMV the notice of his license suspension.
