Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

I purchased a car three years ago from a Virginia car dealership that had window tinting. I was not notified that the tinting ont he car was illegal. I have driven the car for three+ years, had it inspected yearly, and received a summons for illegal tint yesterday. What are the responsibilities of the car dealer in letting me know about the illegal tint? Shouldn't the state inspection people have said that the tint was illegal before I was sold the car? Now I have a fine, and the added cost of having the tint removed.

Based upon your description of the facts, I see no liability on the part of the dealership nor the folks who conducted the state inspections of this vehicle for their alleged respective failures to inform you as to the legality of the window tinting on this vehicle.
