Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

Reckless driving with more than one person

I'm 16, and I recieved my license recently. My first night with my license, I got pulled over for doing 48 in a 25. The thing is, I honestly had no idea what the speed limit was. From the time I left my friend's house, there was no speed limit sign. Although I was in a ''neighborhood'', one side was a forest and the other side was a group of unlit trailers.

I also had more than one passenger in my car, (3 more than I was allowed to have, and 1 unrestrained) but I recieved a seperate ticket for that. If I pay that off, will the 1+ thing still come back to hurt me on the reckless ticket?

As bad is this sounds, I'm a B average student in college classes. It was just my first day with my license and I wanted to take a few of my friends around the block, and I got lost and thought the speed limit was faster than it really was.

What punishment can I expect from this? I plan on hiring a lawyer. Thanks.

Re: Reckless driving with more than one person

Better ask the lawyer (and make sure that you have one)in order to minimize the possible adverse consequences of this situation. (If you knew you were in a neigborhood, you should've known that the speed limit for such a territory--even a rural one--was likely no more than 30 mph.)

And, yes, your over the passenger limit will also likely be a factor which the prosecutor will feel compelled to consider in deciding as to what might be a fair and just disposition for your case.
