Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Washington

Can I file chapter 7 in Nevada if I only have Washington state ID?

Hi

Right now I am stuck in Las Vegas Nevada. I don't have a birth cert. I have my original adoption papers and name change papers issued from a court in Pittsfield MA. I was born in Burlington VT. So I can't get a Nevada drivers license or ID. I still have my Washington state drivers license and registration. My question is can I file chapter 7 in Nevada with Washington ID.

Thank you for your time.

Acceptable ID to File Bankruptcy

In Las Vegas, you to present a government issued photo ID at your meeting with your trustee and another document to verify your social security number. A Washington State id or drivers license should be fine as long as you actually live in Nevada. (Although you shouldn't be driving with your Washington Drivers license)

You should be able to get your birth certificate from Public Records in the state where you were born. It will not say who your birth parents are but will have been reissued with the names of your adopting parents name as your actual parents (which of course, they legally are) on the birth certificate. My Dad had a similar problem getting his birth certificate - his adopting mother died when he was very young, so he never knew her maiden name & state of New York insists on knowing the mother's maiden name before releasing his birth certificate. He did know where she died, and we got her maiden name off her death certificate.
