Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

3rd deg. theft

I was ''caught stealing'' w/ my friend at a local walmart. What happend was she stuck stuff in a bag and I walked out w/ it unknowingly. I was caught w/ the bag but an employee saw her do it. She was charged as well but she moved out of town and doesn't for what ever reasons have to appare in court. I think I have to plead gilty but am not sure. if you can tell me what my opptions are and if i better off just pleading gulty just to get it over w/ i cant afford to keep going back and forth to court if i don't even stand a chance.

Re: 3rd deg. theft

You should never plead guilty to a crime without speaking to a lawyer first. Many types of convictions can affect your life far beyond the "deal" a prosecutor may offer. There are a number of things that a Lawyer can do to help reduce the impact of a Theft 3rd charge. For instance, there is an option called a Civil Compromise that will allow you to have the charge completely dismissed. Although Walmart does not usually agree to this type of resolution, a good lawyer may be able to get the prosecutor to agree to a similar result. My office offers a free consultation.
