Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

I was arguing with my boyfriend and made the stupid mistake of calling 911 and claiming that he had physically abused me earlier in the day. After hanging up with 911 I called them back and requested to cancel the call & said there was not a problem and police were not needed but the police were already almost to our house so they came anyway. I was afraid I would be arrested for making a false 911 call so my statement I gave was a similar version of what I told 911 (the first call) but with the abuse significantly downplayed. I also wrote a statement that said my boyfriend did not try hurting me and that there was no abuse that warranted him being arrested. The officer did not arrest either one of use but said it would be up to the the prosecutor whether charges would be filed or not.

May be a good idea to hire a lawyer right away, so they can work with the prosecutor before charges get filed.

They will make a decision to charge or not based just on the reports, unless you have someone in there advocating for you. The prosecutor may take several weeks to make a decision. Make sure that DOL has a current mailing address for both of you - if charges are filed, the court will normally use your DOL address to send you notice of the court date. You don't want to miss the court date and further complicate your situation.
