Class B Felony 1st Time Theft - Need Help

I just got a summons to court 9/30/05 for a class B felony of theft. I'm moving to WI on 10/1/05. I can make it to court, if they need me back there I will not be able to get there. Financially I cannot afford to fly back to WA. The reason for the move is because I can rent for almost nothing in WI. If I stay because they need to reschedule I will be homeless. Does anyone think that they will just give me a fine and allow me to pay for it on a month-to-month basis? It is my first time, didn't resist arrest, I am clean and do not do drugs. The money stolen was to pay for college tuition. What is the best way to approach the judge?

I am sorry to say but court moves so slowly, particularly superior court, that you aren't even likely to get a plea offer at your 9/30 court date. You should get a Public Defender on your case immediately (although it may already be too late) to see if they can get the plea offer for you ahead of time. Call the Office of Public Defense if you are in King County. The Department of Assigned Counsel if you are in pierce.
