Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

I was recently caught smoking marijuana while under the influence of alcohol. I was charged with Possession of Marijuana: Less than 40 grams (RCW 69.50.4014) and Minor in Possession of Alcohol: Exhibiting (RCW 66.44.2702b). I'm a student at a local college and I am relying on financial aid and scholarships to put me through school. Therefore I'm hoping this stays off my record. I have a 3.95 GPA (if that will help at all). What are my chances of keeping this off my record and how can I help that happen?

Your chances are better if you hire an experienced attorney right away. That is the number one thing you can do. Then that attorney will be able to further direct you as to what will benefit your case. Cases are very fact specific and vary greatly. For example, it may help your case to set it for trial right away because the State Lab is back up and probably hasn't confirmed that the substance is marijuana. However, if the government already has a lab result that would be a bad idea. There are dozens of issues like this so that's is why you need an experienced attorney.
