Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

I have been subpoenaed to court in the state of Washington and I do not wish to testify or even want to be involved in this matter. I am worried that if I do not respond, that I will be in contemt of court and could have a warrant for my arrest. I am being told by individuals that I know to not even respond and that I won't get into trouble. What should I do?

A person should always obey a court order. Subpoenas, however, must be properly sworn and served before they are enforceable. If the sub is not properly issued, or properly and personally served, then it it is probably not enforceable and therefore there would be no consequences to a person for not responding to it. Before you make any decision that could be construed as not obeying a sub, talk to a lawyer and let them review it.

Sounds like you need a lawyer either way.
