Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

threatened with gun

I was walking home from work, I was shouted at by an ex girlfriends new boyfriend. I shouted back and he pulled out a gun and threatened to shoot me. I called the police, I don't know if he was arrested or not. I was given a case number and told to call today. I will be talking to the Det. of the case today. Besides any possible criminal charges, do I have any possible legal recourse ie, civil suit etc?

Re: threatened with gun

You may indeed have a civil case for assault against him but that wou ddepend upon a number of factors. Were you harmed pschologically? Have nightmares? Have general nervous system disruptions? Does this guy have any money or assets you can collect on? Otherwise, you will be paying all of the legal expenses to sue him with little or no hope of recovering anything. You need to have damage that you can objectively prove, i.e., going to a doctor or psychologist, and the ability to collect. If not, it's not really worth it, is it? Good Luck!
