Legal Question in DUI Law in Washington

License suspension WA state

I am leaving for Basic Training for the US Army on April 27th. Due to a guilty plea for DUI my license is getting suspended On May 25th, 2009. When I return my 90 day suspension will be up. I will be re located to a different state and am curious if I will be able to obtain a new license there without hassle. Anyone ever deal with or know of a situation like this?

Re: License suspension WA state

There is an interstate compact on licenses and suspensions, and each state is supposed to give full faith and credit to suspensions entered in other states. From your fact pattern, by the time you get back, your license should be ready for reinstatement. You may have to pay the reinstatement fee here to bring your DL into good standing prior to getting permission to get a DL in another state. There's no way to be sure and it will differ from state to state. However, if you don't reinstate here, it will continue to show that you are "suspended and eligible for reinstatement."
