Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Legal seperation / Divorce

We are Indian citizens, married in India in 1998. We have green card and have been living in WA since 1999. We have one child (born in US). Can we file for legal separation or divorce in US? or must we seek this in India court?

Re: separationV.Divorce=Indian couple may divorce here!

Absolutely no problem divorcing here!.... you have more jurisdiction and venue than Willy Wonka had chocolate! Suffice it to say that you can file for EITHER legal separation or divorce. My discussion board has more focussed discussion re this distinction- divorce-washingtonDOTinfo, that is a web address. and the info part is one of the newer suffixes used as opposed to dot com!

your case depends on where the marriage took place India or US.If it was India than your agetting divorce in US is not valid in India.Regarding custody of your child may be done in either places.
