Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Military Deployment

I am a single father who has won custody of my children. (as of September) in order for the mother to get even unsupervised visits, she has to do random drug tests and even a hair follicle test. She has supervised visits every other Saturday from 12-4. I am preparing to go on a military deployment for 6 months. Will I lose custody of the children because of this deployment? Or can my new wife be the provider for the kids?

Re: Military Deployment

You should petition to have your wife appointed as guardian by a court and have the specific findings that support restrictions on your children's mother entered into the guardianship order. Military deployment can have an effect on custody, so you should get this resolved well before your deployment. Legal Assistance on the Naval Air Station should be able to help you with the guardianship, which you would then file in the Superior for Island County.
