Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Paternity Suit

I live in Washington State. I was intimate with--name removed--girl who resides in New York. She became pregnant approx 3 years ago. At first she said the child was mine, and then while she was still pregnant, she said the dates indicated that the child was not mine. When the child was about--name removed--year she then contacted me and said the baby really was mine. I informally sent her money and toys, etc. for the baby. Since then she alternates between ignoring me and asking me for money. Recently I received--name removed--summons to appear before--name removed--NY magistrate for--name removed--paternity suit. Will I be penalized for not formally paying child support for the past 2 1/2 years? Would it be possible/likely for me to be able to have joint custody of the child if she is mine?
