slander

Is slandering someone still a legal civil matter even if the one doing the slander is a family member?

This is not a family law matter. Defamation (includes slander and libel in Washington) is a tort (civil wrong), and generally family members are not immune. I know that parents and children are not immune, but I've never checked on husbands and wives.

Defamation can occur between family members and there is no immunity because of the family relationship.
