Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Washington

My ex boyfriend and I got a car when we were together. The car was repossessed when we broke up. He is not making payments on the amount that is in collections, and I have paid over $3500 on this car. They are willing to settle for $3800. Is it possible to go after him for the 3500 that I have paid into the loan, so it would split it between us, and close the loan?

You probably have legal recourse. You would probably want to bring it in small claims considering the low dollar amount.
