threatening to expose nude pictures

My 20 yr old daughter recently ended a 2 Yr relationship with a 21 year old man. He is threatening to email and expose pictures that he took of her (naked pictures). What do we need to do to stop this?

Re: threatening to expose nude pictures

Your best case is an invasion of privacy lawsuit, which will take time to get to trial, if it goes that far. In the meantime, right after you file the suit, you can file a motion seeking a temporary injunction that prevents his making public the photos, at least until a judge or jury can hear the case out.

Hopefully, if you hire an attorney, that person can scare some sense into this young man, who is (I am guessing here) either upset with your daughter and this is how he knows to get back at her, or perhaps he's just a sadistic jerk who only wants to inflict one last bit of pain upon her. Either way, the prospect of financially hitting him where it counts may stir some sense into him.

The above is a best case scenario. The worst case is that you incur legal fees to go through litigation and maybe he can prove that he has permission to use the photos in any way he wants.

I hope this helps at least a little.

Re: threatening to expose nude pictures

How old was your daughter when the pictures were taken?

Given the daughter's age, there may be issues regarding child pornography. Merely possessing child pornography can lead to criminal convictions. The former boyfriend can be in serious trouble if your daughter was under age when the boyfriend took those pictures.
