Legal Question in Immigration Law in Washington

My husband a US citizen is planing to move to Iceland and work for a non-government company as a senior programmer in about 2 months. I am Canadian, and have held a green card for more than 5 years. If we leave for more than 2 years how can I return to the US?

Your husband, as a US citizen, can live and work abroad.

You, however, as a permanent resident, are subject to a different set of residency rules. You can't stay abroad for longer than a year at a time. You might be able to either apply for naturalization/citizenship - if eligible, or apply for travel document. If you choose not to apply for citizenship, after your return to USA you will not be able to apply for citizenship immediately and will have to wait in order to meet all naturalization requirements.
