Legal Question in Employment Law in Washington

Job references information latitiude

I recently left my employer I quit they content I was fired. I had an employment agreement which referenced outside activies and other reasons for termination. I have disputed all allegations and intend to prove them in a court of law.

I have interviewed with a prospective employer and find out through my interaction with the interviewer that the former employer has been spreading negative information about me.

My question is what are the legal limits that a company can deseminate information about a former employee. What information can be freely given out eiter on purpose or inadvertantly. Do I have legal recourse in the event that defamitory inromation is given out in an attempt to decredit my character.

Re: Job references information latitiude

Your relationship as an employee does not normally waive your rights to seek damages for any defamatory (bad and untrue statements) that your former employer may make about you. If you have been damaged, you have the right to seek compensation for your damages in a court of law.
