Legal Question in Personal Injury in Washington

passenger causes car wreck

A passenger in my son's car reached over and for no apparent reason jerked the steering wheel on the interstate. The car hit a guard rail and was totaled. Is there liability here?

Re: passenger causes car wreck

Yes you have a liability case. The question is insurance coverage. Is there any on the vehicle or did the person who jerked the wheel have their own policy?

Yes. But with who? It's not very believable that the passenger just jerked the steering wheel. I'm sorry to tell you but it's more plausible that your son had a wreck and wishes to avoid responsibility. That said, you know him best.
