Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Washington

Property Manager and out-dated bill

We changed property managers on a rental home in Washington State in June 2006. We closed our account with the first manager, received copies of monthly statements and were notified that bills were paid up through the end of June.

On Tuesday, Aug 22, 2006, we received an e-mail from the first property manager (a large real estate company) saying that a dryer that was purchased in April 2006 for the house was never paid for and they will forward the bill to us.

We need to determine where we're at with the obligation to this bill. The company was to be paying bills for us at that time and it seems unreasonable that now, 4 months later we're getting notification from the property manager that it wasn't paid.

What are our options on this? If we closed out our account and they reviewed the file, shouldn't they have known about this and told us in June? Since it's so late do we need to pay the bill or is this an error of the property manager and their responsibility now?

Re: Property Manager and out-dated bill

Sometimes vendors may be slow in invoicing their customers and, by the time the invoice arrives and is processed, there could be a delay. If they incurred the expense on your behalf, then most likely you're obligated to pay that debt.
