Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Washington

Estate Rights

I am writing on behalf of my little sister who's father is recently deceaed. His current wife has been uncooperative. I was wondering how to find out if there are any assets and if she is entitled to any of them.

Re: Estate Rights

That's a tough situation to be in. My apologies to your sister.

She can check with the county court house where he passed away to see if a petition for probate was filed. If so, she can receive a copy of the paperwork and contact the attorney listed on that for more information.

If there was no will and her father and current wife owned all of their assets jointly or as community property -- the assets of the father will normally pass straight to the current wife without a need for probate.

I hope this helps.
