Legal Question in Administrative Law in West Virginia

Who do I give the title?

About Three years ago, I sold a mobile home to a fellow. I signed the title over to him and let him send it into the state. earlier this year, this man died. Several weeks ago I received the title in the mail, back in my name. How do I go about finding the person who should receive this title from me?

Re: Who do I give the title?

Congratulations on wanting to do the right thing!

The best approach is to call the Probate Clerk in the county where the man died. Ask if his estate has been opened for probate. If it has, contact the person who is administering the estate and they can help you. If there is no estate open, that becomes more difficult. Probably the easiest thing to do in that instance is to send the title to clerk of the probate court and ask that the court hold title until the heirs at law can be identified and can claim the property.
