Legal Question in Business Law in Wisconsin

Business Formation

I am interested in establishing an LLC in the state of Wisconsin and wish to know how to go get started and the costs associated with it. Can this be accomplished without an attorney?

The business will be an on-line business.

Re: Business Formation

Go to http://www.wdfi.org/ which is the department of financial institutions website. You can create and file articles of LLC on-line.

BUT, you will also need an operating statement which defines your LLC. Someone has to create that for you or do it on your own. If you are going to be and to remain a one person LLC the Operating Agreement can be fairly simple. But you also have to get a Federal Identification number and possibly a sales tax number and you have to choose how you want to be taxed and file the necessary tax elections with the IRS/State of Wisconsin, etc. You really should have the advice of an attorney or CPA before you proceed.

DFI charges a $130 fee to file. The attorney fee charge would depend on how much service you need and could run $450 - $675 for a single person entity - more if you have a non-spouse partner.
