Providing your social security number for a buisness service.

Is it true you must only provide a Social Security number in the following instances.

Tax Matter

Recieve Public Assistance

Obtain and use a drivers license

To register a motor vehical

If anyboby else demands a Social Security number

the person representing the company is liable and the company is liable for damages no less than $1000

By federal law banks, MVD's, social security and the IRS are entitled to demand your SSN and to withhold services or impose penalities if you refuse.

Others may ask for your SSN but they may not withhold services or benefits if you decline. There is no penalty for asking.

All will give you fits about the number because everyone uses it. If you stand your ground they will usually yield.
