Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Wisconsin

As a co-signor of a student loan, what recourse can I do to collect the debt from the original student -- he is working 3 jobs and not paying on the loan. Can I garnish wages, tax returns?

Garnishment will require you obtain a judgment against him. A few questions come to mind, including: 1. Have you paid any of the debt to the lender? 2. has the lender made negative reports to the credit report companies? 3. Has the creditor initiated any actions against him or you? If so, you could include yourself in that pursuit or bring him into a case against you. If you believe he has the resources to pay back damages to you then you should seriously consider pursuing the judgment (through a lawsuit).

Fear of legal fees/costs prevent too many people from seeking good advice. I suggest you purchase an hour of a lawyer's time so the s/he will review your situation specifically and provide you relevant advice as to your options. At that point you cand decide whether to pursue a case and, if you do, with or without a lawyer.
