Intake court is the first appearance in a criminal case. The judge makes sure that you have a copy of the criminal complaint and will explain it to you if you don't have a lawyer. He will also make sure that you know that you have a right to an attorney and, in most cases, will delay further proceedings to make sure that you have adequate opportunity to retain one.
