Legal Question in DUI Law in Wisconsin

Received 4th OWI. It's been 4 years and 10 months since my 3rd. I crashed my car into a guard rail at 2:30am. I was the only occupant. I'm facing 6 months-6 years. Why is the DA recommending 5 years with 30 initial confinement? Isn't this extremely harsh?

30 days initial confinement is a light sentence, since you won't have to do the remaining five years unless you subsequently get revoked. In today's political climate, cracking down on repeat drunk drivers is all the rage, so you should not expect much sympathy from any of the big players in your life; not the DOC, nor the court system, and particularly not law enforcement. WI actually is actually the most lenient state in the U.S., at least when it comes to first offense drunk drivers, who cannot go to jail at all unless they hurt someone. But you already know that, have once been there, along with 3 subsequent trips to court for OWI. Either way, I wish you the best of luck, because you will need it!
