When a couple is divorcing and they have a mortgage, to figure the equity in the home, do you use the date of the initial court appearance & what is owed on that date?

The valuation date for assets in the State of Wisconsin is the date of the final hearing unmless the court finds that another date is more appropriate. That means the valuation date for determining the value of the home and thebalance of the mortgage would be the date the case is settled or the date of the final hearing.
