Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Wisconsin

Noise Violations

Living in an appartment in a college town with security guards present in the building. On occasion we get loud while have people over followed by a security guard at our door telling us they are going to call the police to give us a noise violation if we don't keep it down and we have told you in the past many times. Basiclly we are not that loud with only a few people over on a Thursday which is party night in our college town. I have continuously asked our neighbors if we are a problem and if we are 'by all means tell us and we will turn it down'. (Neighbors come by too) They do have parties which are much worse and damage causing in the hallls when the party is coming to end.

My question is can the police give us a ticket for noise even though we are not disturbing anyone in the area? I have talked to the security guards that have been knocking on our door to keep it down and we do turn the music and voices down, but I have a feeling they may be calling the police soon! The students we do have over are just friends of ours and that is it (appx. 15 students). What can I do if we do get a ticket or what is the law behind noise violates.

Thank you

Re: Noise Violations

Yes, it sound like the party is indeed over. The

police can and do frequently give tickets to parties

who are not guilty. The ticket has no legal effect

if it is beaten in court, but fighting one is always

a costly process. Good luck and keep the noise down!
