Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Wisconsin

My son was recently notified by his Internet Service Provider (ISP) that they received a subpoena to provide the name and address of subscribers associated with the IP address involved in a copyright infringement. The ISP will not not disclose this personal information if he makes an objection directly to the court and provides this information to the ISP. How does he object directly to the court? Is this something he can do without an attorney? Thanks much.

No, objecting to a subpoena for electronic information from an ISP is a complex process for which your son will need an attorney. Consult with one as soon as possible. This could be the start of a serious legal problem, and any disclosure which he makes on his own to the court or the ISP runs the risk of further incriminating him.

Do not assume that I am your attorney because of my response here, since I would not be taking any action on your case without additional arrangements.
