Legal Question in Insurance Law in Wisconsin

What to do

in march was in an auto accident.I took FMLA,PMLA.I injured my neck,upper back.was told by the ins.of the car that hit us they would pay medical and wage loss and possible pain & suffering.Dr.realesed me to go back to work 7/11 wrote he needed to assess the results after 2 days work.was told could not go back by the nurse.becuase of liability on thier part.Dr.said will wait until leave is up.Received in the mail from Human recourses letter stateing that on 7/16 DR.said I could return to work.This was sent registered and certified.son(13yrs)signed for it on 8/1.did not show me it until 8/8 after HR was closed .letter said I had to call them by 8/8.if not then, i would resign my position. recieved the green card back from the letter.was tracked so they know this house got it.here is ?.If I lose my job am I still entitiled to back wage pay from this insurnace co.have I lost eveything becuase never saw letter?Would I only be able to get pain & suffering and medical bills paid.And 1 more question.if I go into this ins co's office and they present me w/an offer can I just say no way and walk out w/out signing anything and then getting a lawyer?any help would be great and I am hopeing this makes sense to someone.
