Legal Question in Employment Law in Wisconsin

Defamation / Loss of Income

Recently, I was suspended after my employer told me they were conducting an internal investigation of missing inventory. They told me they believed I was responsible for these missing items. There investigation turned up nothing as I had no responsibility for the missing inventory. Apparently they were able to account for the inventory with my assistance. I was fired anyway.

I then began to apply for positions with their competitors and shortly thereafter I learned that the company had leaked this investigation to the public and also made public the fact that I was also the subject of an embezzlement investigation. This investigation, like the first, was completely unfounded and proved fruitless.

These investigations were purposely made public to discredit me and keep me from acquiring employment with a competitor because my employment with a competitor would be damaging to my ex-employer.

Further, I entered into a separation agreement with my ex-employer. One stipulation of the agreement states that my ex-employer may not issue disparaging information about me to prospective employers. They violated this part of the agreement. What option do I have for legal action against this group?
