life insurance / use of payment

My wife is the beneficary of her brothers life insurance policy. is she obligated to pay any of his outstanding bills with these moneys?? he was single no other heirs or will. she would like to pay his funeral bill and thats it. thank you.

Generally, life insurance is a non-probate

for the beneficiary, and the proceeds are not

attachable by creditors. Paying some of the

bills, however, would certinly seem like the

right thing to do.
