Legal Question in Administrative Law in India

If we have bought one property 12 years ago and now all of a sudden, Electricity dept can levy long outstanding of previous owner on us after 12 years??

Just to clarify, we are third owner of this property.

First owner A sold it to B and we"c" purchased this from B.

All dues were clear.

Electricity meter was in the name of "B" which we got converted into our name i.e. "C)

Now all of a sudden after 12 years of purchase of this property, ELECTRICITY Dept is saying that there is a huge outstanding of Electricity bill on first owner i.e. "A" and we need to clear this outstanding or our power supply will be disconnected.

Please advise, if legally they can impose this outstanding on us. ..

Dear Sir / Madam,

You will have to write to the electricity department seeking an explanation of the long outstanding dues and how come they are surfacing now after so many years and why were they not included in the monthly bills. A reply through a lawyer is recommended.

Regards,
