Legal Question in Family Law in India

My husband and me are staying together now but i want to apply for a divorce since he is having an affair and beating me for everything. His mother is screwing a lot and he comes and shout at me and finally beat me and go out. This time he did beat me 20 days back and head is paining till today. Cant tolerate the pain. I am not able to take decision now because of my daughter as she likes him very much. He always react to my daughter that he is a good father. I am not able to identify that is it really a true love and affection. In the meanwhile my MIL is saying that she will do me something and take the child from me. Because of my MIL's cruel activity, my husband first wife left within 3 months and she have twin child. Now they grown up and staying in foreign country with her. I did not know much detail about his first marriage and got married 7 yrs back. Now I am thinking that why did she leave and accepted for a divorce. Because of his worst activity, I say him to leave me. But he neither accepts nor live happily with me. He is treating me like I am under his custody. Not allowing me take any decision. I am well educated and working in a good position but still because of fear, i am unable to proceed further. Is there any possibility to stay separate without giving him a divorce. I am so scared of the day on which he receives the paper from the lawyer/court. If he comes and beat and in result something happened to me (if i die). What will my small daughter do? They all will feel that they achieved whatever they felt. Please advice that how do I need to safeguard myself and my baby without leaving my job.
