Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

Re: Alimony in Alabama

I am a disabled woman, married 28 years. I received SSI disability, married to the same man for 28 years. We have a disabled son whom we adopted 12 years ago (he is 12). He will never live on his own. My husband wants a divorce. I do not have enough money to live on my own and take care of my son. I have tried to work out an agreement with my husband so that I would receive enough money to make house payments and utility payments. This would allow me to pay my Medicare. My prescriptions are $800/mo and my check is $800 (ssi mo). Considering the length of my marriage and circumstances, it is possible that I would receive alimony - not ''rehabilitative'' since I am unable to work? I do not have money for an attorney and have already tried legal aid. My husband is very bitter and mean with me. This is a very bad situation but I have nowhere to go.

Re: Re: Alimony in Alabama

You should be able to get alimony due to the length of your marriage. Also, you should be able to get child support for your disabiled child as long as the child is under your care.
