Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Alabama

password ownership

I was fired by my employer yesterday and left the office with all my personal belongings. Today I recieved an email at home from the woman that fired me stating that she considers my computer password to be company property. There is no computer administrator at the company and she may have to hire someone to get past the password and unlock the computer. With that in mind is it legal for me to withhold the password?

Without getting to the issue of whether it's legal

for you to withhold the password, why would you want to?
