Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Alabama

My landlord wrote my lease for 24 months, with an end date in 2011. When I said that I only needed a 12 month lease, he scratched it the 24 months out and wrote 12 months and changed the end date to 2010. Should he have rewritten the contract? Was it still legal?

Probably. If you both testify to what you say here, the ambiguity in the contract will be supported by testimony. If you are trying to get out of making lease payments on a theory that the writing is defective, you will likely loose.
