Legal Question in Personal Injury in Alabama

Last Friday, as tornadoes were popping up all over the place (in the area in which we were traveling), we sought refuge/safety in a retail store. While in the store, a tornado did pop up and subsequently blow a billboard type sign into our vehicle. The advertiser (and by all appearances, the company that placed the sign as well) was contacted and of course, the deny any liability. Due to ages of our cars and because they are paid for, we do not carry comprehensive coverage. Whose insurance company would be liable for this type of claim?

This is one of those instances where an "Act of God" transcends the terms of a policy. No one could have anticipated that the billboard would be blown down and would damage a car, or even if they could have, you would need to prove that the billboard was somehow not constructed to current standards. If your cars are not worth very much, your costs to undergo this sort of suit will far outweigh the modest loss you have suffered. You might try your homeowner's policy to see if that might cover you. Otherwise I think you are without a deep pocket on this one.
