Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Alabama

How do I locate non-probated wills?

My mother inherited several parcels of land that she does not want to keep. She has been paying the taxes on this land for many years for the family members to whom the land was deeded. The deeds are still in their names. Those family members have been long since passed away, but left no will in probate. My questions are: 1) How can the wills be located? and 2) How can we sell this land if we cannot locate the wills? Thank you in advance.

You said that your mother "inherited" land. How did this happen? Why is she paying the taxes? Is the county sending her tax notices? Are there any other members of the family to whom this land might have passed years back? Basically you need to hire an attorney who is a local attorney in the county where the land is located to unravel this situation. A title company can also track down the deeds from years ago as well for a nominal fee.
