Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Alabama

Will a Verbal agreement stand up in a court of law?

My grandfather died and left my father 23 acres in Alabama. My father told me in front of other family members that he would give me 8 acres of that land. Now I think that he is being pressured to change his mind by my step mother. Do I have any legal recourse?

Enforceability vol. offer to make gift.

Facts: Father inherited 23 acres in Alabama. He told me in front of other family members that he would give me 8 acres of that land.

Q. Do I have any legal recourse?

A. If your father's gesture was voluntary and not supported by any consideration on your part before or after the gesture, then it is unlikely that you could legally force him to do anything he doesn't want to do. It is his to do with as he desires. A contract must have four basic elements: Consideration; meeting of the minds; legal parties and legal purpose. You haven't set forth any consideration to support legal recourse.
