Legal Question in Criminal Law in Arizona

I was recently brought in for questioning as a suspect of having sex with a minor of a family friends daughter. Basically the catch is did a sexual act happen yes. I woke up twice at 2 different locations to find this girl on top of me going to town. Stunned shocked in fear and over in secs after waking up she basically tells me to keep my mouth shut or she will scream rape to her parents and police. Being family friends with her parents I had no idea what to do. Afraid to tell anyone for fear i would be accused of molestation I slowly made distance from this family and pulled my family away. Now a year later she told her parents that I raped her and I'm being questioned now. I'm guessing i should bring this up now? will that just make it look like i'm trying to lie and not be accountable

As a former prosecuting attorney in the Sex Crimes Division, you should understand that these charges have very severe consequences and can carry a mandatory prison up to life in prison depending on the age of the victim. I encourage you to contact an experienced attorney in this area of law for confidential advice to gain a better understanding of how to best approach this situation. Best of luck.

You need to invoke your right to remain silent and immediately hire an attorney. You also need to be aware of what is called a "confrontation call" where police arrange a call with you and the alleged victim to attempt to illicit a confession from you. Unbeknown to the suspect (i.e., you) this call is being recorded. You should not accept a call from the alleged victim. These calls are often used in sex cases and the recordings will be admissible in court. Feel free to review my website at http://cantorsexlawyers.com/ as it may answer some questions regarding penalty that cannot be addressed without knowing the age of the alleged victim.
