Alimony

Please can someone help me with the state laws on paying Alimony after a divorce. Who pays,if one has nothing to give & is already paying child support to another state,but has no children from this recent marriage. ''Thanks''

In Arizona, we call it "Spousal Maintenance".

1. There is no guarantee that either party will be entitled to Spousal Maintenance.

2. If one party is entitled, which requires that she (or he) satisfy a variety of criteria, it is usually paid by the spouse making the higher wages.

3. The Court does, when deciding whether spousal should be paid, or in what amount, look at the Payor's ability to pay (amongst many other things).
