How old does a child have to be to choose where they want to live?

there is no fast hard rule on this. THe court will consider a child's wishes as one of the factors to consider regarding custody. The older a child is, perhaps the more a court will consider the statemetns of the child. Statements alone do not warrant a ruling one way or the other. Usually the court will have conciliation services interview the child if the child is older.
