Legal Question in Family Law in Arizona

My Sister lives in Colorado and I live in Arizona. If something happens to her, I'm going to raise her daughter. Should we have legal documents stating this? Where should those papers be filed?

Generally speaking, your sister should draft a Will that (among other things) names you as the legal guardian of her child in the event of her death. I recommend she speak with an attorney in the city where she resides to discuss the specifics. In Arizona, Wills are not "filed"; however, I do not practice in Colorado, so I don't know whether there is such a requirement there.
