Legal Question in Tax Law in Arizona

Irs

I hired a large well known corp. to solve my tax problems in 2004 and now there is a lein on our home. Currently I am working with the irs myself but am unsure if I should. We have requested an abatement for the penalties and interest and also to lower the monthly installments. The irs agents have told me that there is no need to hire someone to do what I can do myself. Is this correct?

Re: Irs

This would be like asking an insurance company if an injured person whom is insured, should hire an attorney to make sure the insurance firm is not ripping off the customer. I recommend hiring an attorney when dealing with the IRS.

As to the lien issue, this is the IRS' way of securing the debt. There are multiple ways of satisfying the debt and removing the lien, some take more time than others, however using an attorney is usually a better route to go.

Re: Irs

You can do it yourself, but a tax professional may be able to save you more money than his fee. He can also take care of the problem without you having to call or meet with the IRS. Unfortunately, you can not trust that the person at the IRS has your best interest in mind. He is interested in collection, not giving you advise about how you can save money, get the penalties abated, and lower your monthly payments. The problem with the large corporation you hired is that you deal initially with a salesperson working on commission and you can never speak to someone actually handling your case. You need a tax attorney who you can talk to and can timely respond to the IRS requests. If you have any questions, please call or email me. Steven Klitzner 18002191118 [email protected]
