Liability of a Spouse after death

is a spouse responsible for the medical bills or car loans after the death of the other spouse?

Arizona is a community property state. This means that each spouse is liable for debts of the other spouse that were incurred during the marriage and for the benefit of the community. Debts incurred prior to the marriage and debts that were incurred for a purpose which very clearly was not intended to benefit the community are not community debts.
