Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Australia

Retrieval of Personal Items

My personal items are in a house in Australia which I shared with my ex. I left in May07 due to a visa issue but just recently found out about his affair. I've asked him repeatedly since May07 to send them to me (when things were cordial) but to no avail. Now, I'm afraid I won't get them back (about 10 boxes worth of personal clothing, items, etc.). Do I have to seek an attorney in Australia to get my things back? Can I just coordinate with the local police and have a moving company retrieve the boxes? What can I do?

Re: Retrieval of Personal Items

If you were present and went with the police to the premises, you might get results. I think you'd have to hire an attorney or give written power of attorney to someone in Australia to act on your behalf, perhaps with the help of law enforcement authorities. Good luck.
